Why are fat women always shown as the funny, forever single, best friend? Why are fat Black women shown as the moral and/or spiritual advisers of white people? viewed as sassy but funny? Why are there reality shows and whole industries dedicated to eradicating fat people? How many fat roles/characters can you name in theatre? Are you cringing at the word fat? This workshop takes an intersectional look at fatness, representation, and performance. We will interrogate how fatmisia functions, on a societal level and within our own lives, and how this translates to the stage.

Natashia Lindsey received her Ph.D. in Performance as Public Practice at The University of Texas at Austin.
